AP History - Norman Weaver FSIAD FZS 1913-1989
Norman Weaver joined AP in 1952 after starting out in life as a cabinet maker and joiner. A cartographer in the war - at one point he was personal map maker to General Eisenhower - and at wars end he was a photographer-reporter documenting the aftermath and repatriation of concentration camp survivors.
He then teamed up with Beverley Pick OBE, producing large models and murals for exhibitons like Ideal Home. He was also involved in producing material for the Festival of Britain in 1951. The early part of his time at AP saw him producing clean, crisp illustrations for the advertising industry - many iconic and some still in use today.
Norman's daughter has put together a distinctive and clean design for a web site about her father and his work. Many wonderful illustrations and some fascinating photographs along with amusing personal anecdotes make this a must see and read for those interested in illustration through the 50' and 60's or as a nostalgic read for those of us who remember Norman's distinctive illustrations. He was a pretty good photographer too..........
